Bosons and Fermions near Feshbach resonances
نویسنده
چکیده
Near Feshbach resonances, n|a|3 ≫ 1, systems of Bose and Fermi particles become strongly interacting/dense. In this unitary limit both bosons and fermions have very different properties than in a dilute gas, e.g., the energy per particle approach a value h̄n2/3/m times an universal many-body constant. Calculations based upon an approximate Jastrow wave function can quantitatively describe recent measurements of trapped Bose and Fermi atoms near Feshbach resonances. The pairing gap between attractive fermions also scales as ∆ ∼ h̄n2/3/m near Feshbach resonances and is a large fraction of the Fermi energy promising for observing BCS superfluidity in traps. Pairing undergoes several transitions depending on interaction strength and the number of particles in the trap and can also be compared to pairing in nuclei.

Observation of heteronuclear Feshbach resonances in a mixture of bosons and fermions.
Three magnetic-field induced heteronuclear Feshbach resonances were identified in collisions between bosonic 87Rb and fermionic 40K atoms in their absolute ground states. Strong inelastic loss from an optically trapped mixture was observed at the resonance positions of 492, 512, and 543+/-2 G. The magnetic-field locations of these resonances place a tight constraint on the triplet and singlet c...
متن کاملCoherent molecular bound states of bosons and fermions near a Feshbach resonance
We analyze molecular bound states of atomic quantum gases near a Feshbach resonance. A simple, renormalizable field theoretic model is shown to have exact solutions in the two-body sector, whose binding energy agrees well with observed experimental results in both Bosonic and Fermionic cases. These solutions, which interpolate between BEC and BCS theories, also provide a more general variationa...
متن کاملCold quantum gases: coherent quantum phenomena from Bose-Einstein condensation to BCS pairing of fermions
Studies of trapped quantum gases of bosons and of fermions have opened up a new range of manybody problems, having a strong overlap with nuclear and neutron star physics. Topics discussed here include: the Bose yrast problem – how many-particle Bose systems carry extreme amounts of angular momentum; the infrared divergent structure of the transition to Bose condensation in a weakly interacting ...
متن کاملThree resonant ultracold bosons: off-resonance effects.
We solve a finite range two-channel model for three resonant identical bosons. The model provides a minimal description of the various magnetic Feshbach resonances in single species ultracold bosonic systems, including off-resonant scattering. We obtain important insights into the interpretation of seminal experiments: the three-body recombination rate measured in sodium and the Efimov resonanc...
متن کاملThree-boson problem near a narrow Feshbach resonance.
We consider a three-boson system with resonant binary interactions and show that for sufficiently narrow resonances three-body observables depend only on the resonance width and the scattering length. The effect of narrow resonances is qualitatively different from that of wide resonances revealing novel physics of three-body collisions. We calculate the rate of three-body recombination to a wea...
